COMMUNITY GARDENING

COMMUNITY GARDENING
I have always cared for the environment and I am convinced more use should be made of derelict or underused plots of land. I think that a variety of small scale methods can be taught to the community in order to make better use of some of these.

I also think that school grounds are a valuable community resource and that pupils can be taught how to garden and how to grow their own food as well as being made aware of the need to look after their environment

I have been involved in community gardening in one form or another for years. I work as a practitioner and on a consultancy basis for Ground for Learning in many schools in West and East Lothian and I am involved in organizations such as the Bridgend Allotment Community Health Project as well as the Edinburgh Community Backgreens Association where I taught the basics of gardening to local people over twelve weekends.

I also work as a community gardener at Hunters Hall Housing Co-op where I teach the local community how to develop an allotment.
